Ítalo Augusto del Valle Alliegro (September 8, 1939, Guatire, Miranda State, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan military officer. He was a General in the Venezuelan Army, reaching the rank of Division General. He served as Commander of the Army during the military crisis with Colombia in 1988, in the so-called Caldas corvette crisis of the Colombian Navy in the waters of the Gulf of Venezuela. He later served as Minister of Defense under the governments of Presidents Jaime Lusinchi and Carlos Andrés Pérez, during which the series of protests and riots known as El Caracazo took place. As a result, more than 22 years later, on October 5, 2011, he was brought to trial for his alleged responsibility in the events of that tragic popular uprising. He subsequently served as a member of the Permanent Commission on Border Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for nine years.
