Biography
Dave Neupauer built a distinguished 28-year career at NFL Films, establishing himself as an Emmy Award-winning producer, director, and editor whose work helped define modern sports storytelling across multiple platforms. Born in the mid-1970s and raised in the Philadelphia area, Neupauer attended Millersville University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Communication from 1993 to 1996. During his college years, he worked as a boxing writer and photographer for US Boxing News from 1995 to 1999, developing foundational skills in sports journalism and visual storytelling. Neupauer joined NFL Films in 1996 in Media Services as a production assistant, entering the organization during its golden era under Steve Sabol's leadership. He advanced through the ranks, serving as lead web developer managing a small design team from 1999 to 2003 during the early internet boom, before transitioning to full-time producer in 2002. Over his 22-year tenure as producer at the Mount Laurel, New Jersey facility, Neupauer wrote, directed, and edited television shows and media content for HBO/Max, Netflix, Amazon Prime, ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox, contributing to NFL Films' record of over 112 Sports Emmy Awards. Neupauer's production strengths defined versatility across multiple formats: extensive experience with marquee long-form sports documentary series including Hard Knocks, Hard Knocks In-Season, and Receiver; mastery of semi-scripted programs like Peyton's Places; expertise in short-form content including show opens and branding spots; ability to excel under tight deadlines with fast turnarounds; proficiency across Adobe, Avid, and DaVinci editing environments; collaborative leadership managing large projects and teams. His notable productions showcased range and excellence: Hard Knocks Training Camp and In-Season on HBO, including the 2023 Miami Dolphins season; Receiver on Netflix featuring elite NFL pass-catchers; Inside College Football Playoffs on ESPN+ chronicling championship journeys; Road to the Super Bowl annual specials airing across major broadcast networks; Peyton's Places celebrating NFL history and legends; WWE: Unreal on Netflix expanding beyond traditional football programming. Since leaving NFL Films in April 2024, Neupauer has worked as freelance producer and editor, creating content for Penn Medicine's brain-computer interface breakthrough documentary and the Philadelphia Phoenix of the UFA, while continuing work on Hard Knocks and major streaming platforms. His skills extend beyond editing to copywriting, directing, cinematography, and visual effects. Neupauer married wife Sharon in 1981 and together they have contributed significantly to Northwest charities. He holds certifications in After Effects CC 2023 and Project Management, maintaining his commitment to continuous learning in visual storytelling. Based in Bellmawr, New Jersey, Neupauer remains passionate about all aspects of filmmaking and enthusiastic about opportunities to teach and mentor emerging producers.
