Biography
R Gowtham is a Tamil poet and translator whose works have appeared in the zine Manalveedu. He has translated writings by Lydia Davis, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Amol Palekar into Tamil before foraying into amateur filmmaking. Gowtham has worked extensively on short documentaries and has headed content for television at Zee Tamil and digital platforms at Asiaville Tamil. He collaborated with director P.S. Vinoth Raj (IFFR Tiger Award winner) on his sophomore feature Kottukaali, and was extensively mentored in his early years by director Bramma (National Award for Best Feature Film). His short documentary 'On the Trails of Aandi' was selected for the Vancouver Asian Film Festival 2023. His debut feature, 'Members of the Problematic Family', an independent work, was officially selected for the Forum section at the Berlinale. His notable work includes 'Talking Poetry with Shankarramasubramaniam', a three-hour-long interview with one of the finest contemporary Tamil poets. His poetry collection is titled 'Maarvalayangal (Aerola)'.
