Biography
Based in London and Hong Kong, Wai Wai Or is an artist, illustrator, and silhouette artist born and raised in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Illustration at the University of the Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts. She founded Wai Wai Studio in 2022 and has collaborated with partners including Hang Seng Bank, CLP Power Hong Kong, Prudential Hong Kong, New Balance, Uniqlo, A. Lange & Söhne, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Highways Department, Urban Renewal Authority, Diptyque, Ferragamo, and Hong Kong Red Cross. Her projects span illustrations, shutter and mural painting, live silhouette cutting, and teaching. Wai Wai Or graduated from the City University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Media, majoring in Film. Her creative practice centres on human connection and community narratives, capturing moments of warmth and resilience in the urban landscape. In 2017, she published her first solo album A Love Letter to Yau Ma Tei, which received an enthusiastic response and was reprinted the following year. Her latest publication, Rendezvous in Old Hong Kong: A Visual Journey through the City’s Historic Neighbourhoods, was awarded the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards 2025 – Illustrated Book Category. Her solo exhibitions include Where? Here. (Tung Nam Lou Art Hotel, 2025), Rendezvous in Old Hong Kong (Galerie Koo, 2024), Dreams Coming True (Loupe, 2020), Vintage Shops with Love (Eslite Bookstore, 2018), Ten Thousand Miles Ahead (Hotel Stage, 2018), and A Love Letter to Yau Ma Tei (Kubrick, 2017). She has also participated in group exhibitions such as Affordable Art Fair – Battersea Autumn (2025), Beyond Fonts Beyond Signboards (JCCAC, 2024), Art That Moves You (Affordable Art Fair, 2023), and Art and City (Times Square, 2022). In June 2020, her mural at 618 Shanghai Street, Mongkok, was shortlisted in the World Illustration Awards.
