Biography
Jahnome McEwan is a Toronto-based writer, filmmaker, and production professional whose work centers on intimate, character-driven narratives exploring love, grief, moral tension, and the quiet contradictions of modern life. A graduate of the Writing for Film & Television program at Toronto Film School and the Specialized Honours English program at York University, Jahnome came into filmmaking through writing first - drawn to the way visual storytelling can articulate what people often leave unsaid. Influenced by the works of Éric Rohmer, Ingmar Bergman, Michaela Coel, Mike Leigh, and the observational realism of British drama, his films embody a distinctly domestic realism; grounded portrayals of private spaces and everyday emotional conflict, where the personal becomes quietly political. His stories tend to linger in the in-between moments of life: conversations left unfinished, choices never made, and the lasting consequences of small, human mistakes. His original scripts have been recognized by competitions including the Filmmatic Drama Screenplay Awards and the Pitch Now Screenplay Competition. Outside of writing and directing, Jahnome has worked in various production capacities across independent short films, including roles as 1st and 2nd Assistant Director and Production Manager. He continues to build a slate of short projects focused on contemporary relationships, identity, and moral ambiguity, with an emphasis on grounded performances, minimalist visual storytelling, and the lived texture of domestic life.
