Biography
Jill Gillespie, or Lady Jill, is a director, editor, and screenwriter, having worked in all stages of audiovisual production, from development to post-production. Goddaughter to Boca do Lixo muse Débora Munhyz and described by her as a "Mojican" filmmaker in memory of late horror master José Mojica Marins, she has a taste and sensitivity for exploring LGBTQ+ themes in genre stories, mainly horror, action, and comedy. She began her career writing for the YouTube channels "Pipocando" and "Bunka Pop" and from there, her trajectory includes the advertising agency Fósforo Filmes, the editing house Olho de Coruja, and Japanese-Brazilian distributor and production company Sato Company. Currently, she works as a Post-Producer at the renowned distributor and production company Vitrine Filmes, and is involved in parallel audiovisual projects with the production company TRANSCODED Filmes and other independent production companies, having directed the short films WAKASHU and ANGEL'S FIG, and co-directed the feature film TALES OF A WANDERING CITY GIRL. Recognized for the strong influence of Asian cinema and video games in her work, Jill's visually maximalist style is frequently compared to charged filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, Brian De Palma and Nicolas Winding Refn, and she has been affectionately nicknamed by her audience as the "Brazilian Meiko Kaji". Her feature film screenplay ALL DOLLS GO TO HEAVEN received an Honorable Mention at the CABÍRIA SCREENPLAY AWARD 2025 in its very first draft.
