Biography
José Diego Palacios Monjaraz is a digital journalist and filmmaker from León, Guanajuato, Mexico. Since 2023, he has worked at POPLab, in the Laboratory of Journalism and Public Opinion, where he develops investigative projects and audiovisual narratives. His journey in filmmaking began in 2017, when at the age of 15 he joined the film workshop at La Salle high school, taught by screenwriter Luis Gonzarroch. Since then, he has developed various film projects focused on social issues and documentary storytelling. In 2021, he won the award for Best Documentary Short Film at the university festival Cortocinema at La Salle with his work Del sentimiento no vamos a comer, which he created during his final year of high school. He has produced and directed multiple short films that have been screened in different states across Mexico and exhibited in five countries. In 2023 and 2024, he was invited to the National Student Film Festival (FENACIES), where he represented Mexico. He currently participates each year as an international jury member at FENACIES Uruguay and FENACIES Puerto Rico. His work has been featured in various media outlets, including TV4, the radio program Suena a Cine in Cuernavaca, the Morelos Institute of Radio and Television, Televisa Morelos, and Radio Tacuarembó in Uruguay, among other platforms dedicated to film promotion. In December 2024, he premiered the documentary Guanajuato: Disidencias y Diversidad, a medium-length film about LGBT activism in Guanajuato, produced in collaboration with CONNECTAS, an international journalism initiative based in Colombia that promotes investigative projects across Latin America.
