Biography
Mahasweta Ray is a celebrated Indian actress, television personality, and politician, widely recognized for her extensive contributions to Odia cinema and television soap operas. Born to the renowned Indian writer Rajkishore Ray, she comes from a family with deep artistic roots. Her sister is Malavika Ray, and the prominent actress Aparajita Mohanty is her cousin. Ray is married to Sirish Routray, and together they have a son named Rishi Routray. Throughout her illustrious career, her exceptional talent has been recognized with numerous accolades, including a record eight Odisha State Film Awards. Ray began her acting journey as a teenager, making her debut in the Odia film Jhumuka in 1975. Despite having limited exposure to cinema prior to her acting career, she quickly rose to prominence, frequently collaborating with director Sisir Mishra on many of his box office hits. In 1978, she expanded her horizons and made her Bollywood debut in the film Priyatama. Over the decades, she has also featured in several notable Bengali films, including Aranyer Adhikar, Katha Chhilo, Sajani Go Sajani, Sujan Sakhi, and Nyayachakra. Her critically acclaimed performances earned her state awards for the films Gouri in 1979, Pooja in 1981, and Kaberi in 1983. She remains actively involved in the Odia entertainment industry today, taking on meaningful character roles and appearing in various television serials. Beyond her extensive career in the entertainment industry, Ray has also ventured into public service. In February 2018, she officially entered the political arena by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
