Biography
Humberto is a filmmaker whose work investigates the intersections of personal memory and political history through speculative fiction and nonfiction. In 2021 he co-founded El Fantasma, a Venezuelan production collective dedicated to collaborative work with Venezuelan filmmakers exploring themes of displacement, exile, and the diaspora. His films including Aforismos del Lago (2021), Vísperas de la Memoria (2022), Fatherspy (2023), and Los Conjurados (2025) have screened at festivals such as BFI London, Locarno, Camden, Nouveau Cinéma Montréal, Edinburgh, Mar del Plata, and Sheffield. He is a 2nd Place Winner of the Diego Rísquez Award and was selected as a director for Locarno Film Festival's Open Doors section in 2024. Currently, he is developing his nonfiction feature debut. His practice is anchored in archival appropriation and critical fabulation as methodologies for examining historical narratives.
