Biography
Alex Scarpa (Trento, 1988) is an Italian film director and screenwriter. In 2014 he made his first short film, Luce spenta (Lights Out). Between 2015 and 2018, he worked as assistant director with filmmakers Razi Mohebi (Cittadini del Nulla, Cittadini del Mondo) and Soheila Javaheri (Una Casa sulle Nuvole). In 2018 he directed Stakhanov, co-written with Ivan Pavlović. The film received a Special Mention at the Edera Film Festival and was selected at numerous Italian and international festivals, including ICFF — Italian Contemporary Film Festival in Toronto and the Linz International Short Film Festival. In 2021 he made the experimental short film Non lasciarmi (Don't Leave Me), a performance by Paola Calliari, presented at the Festival International de Cinéma d'Auteur de Rabat. In 2025 he co-wrote and co-directed La ragazza d'argento (The Silver Girl) with writer Margherita Giusti Hazon, again starring Paola Calliari, winner of the Sybila Award at the San Benedetto International Film Festival and selected at various Italian festivals, including the Ferrara Film Festival.
