Biography
Róger Daniel Neira was born in Trujillo, Peru, in 1980. He studied Film Directing at the Charles Chaplin Institute in Lima. Simultaneously, he trained in art, acting, and the semiotics of the image at the School of Fine Arts, Ricardo Palma University, and the Cultural Center of San Marcos University. He received a scholarship to participate in the Creative Documentary Diploma program at the University of Valle, Colombia. He has pursued film directing studies in Peru, Argentina, and Colombia. He has written and directed seven short documentaries and three short fiction films, which have won several national and international awards and have been screened at more than 80 international film festivals. His feature-length documentary project, Guardianes (Guardians), was selected to participate in Doc Meeting Argentina, the screenwriting and project development workshop offered by ARTE France as part of Doc Buenos Aires/Latin Side of the Doc, and Sunny Side of the Doc, France 2015. He is currently developing the feature films El Mensaje de La Tierra (The Message of the Earth) and Basilio y el Mar (Basilio and the Sea). Neira has won five national awards from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and was selected to participate in the Film Project Workshop: Screenplay Development, organized by DAFO in 2020. He is the artistic director of the Latin American Film Festival in Indigenous Languages; founder of the Bicentennial Film Club La Libertad and administrator of the Cine 8mm Perú website. He is also the president of the Amazonia Siglo 30 Association. Among his works are the short films Él, ella, el río (2017), 9 ½ (2020), Shipibos konibos: Hombres monos, hombres peces (2015), Q’eros: Hombres de altura (2009), Uros: Guardianes del agua (2008) and Los guardianes del barro (2008).
