The two musicians Vincent Stein—also known in the German hip-hop scene as the producer "Beatzarre"—and Dag-Alexis Kopplin met as teenagers in Berlin-Spandau. In 1999, they founded SDP—at the time operating under the name "Stonedeafproduction"—though today the acronym SDP serves as the band's official name. In 2002, they released their first demo, *Angriff aus Berlin*. Jürgen Kuttner from the radio station You FM provided the intro for the program *Nightline*.
Following their debut album, *Räuberpistolen*, several other releases followed; however, their major breakthrough did not occur until 2010 with the song "Ne Leiche," taken from the album *Kontrastprogramm*. The accompanying music video—featuring rapper Sido as a prominent guest star—became a viral hit, garnering over 50.2 million views on YouTube (as of January 2020).
In 2012, the duo achieved their first chart entry with the album *Die bekannteste unbekannte Band der Welt* ("The Most Famous Unknown Band in the World"), reaching number 51 on the German album charts. Once again, Sido made a guest appearance, this time on the track "Die Nacht von Freitag auf Montag." This was followed in 2013 by the album *Bunte Rapublik Deutschpunk*, which peaked at number 4. The album features numerous guest appearances, including contributions from Eko Fresh, Keule, Weekend, and Bass Sultan Hengzt.
In 2015, they released *Zurück in die Zukunst*, an album that built upon the success of its predecessors and climbed to number 2 on the German album charts. Once again, prominent guest artists were featured, including Trailerpark, Mad Maks, Adel Tawil, and Frauenarzt. Renowned voice actor and stage actor Manfred Lehmann—known for dubbing the likes of Bruce Willis and Gérard Depardieu—was enlisted to provide the narration for the album's audio-drama segments.
In 2015, *Schlager* star Peter Wackel covered their song "Die Nacht von Freitag auf Montag," releasing it as a single via iTunes and Amazon.
