Sun Xiaohang (Xiaohang Sun), born on July 21, 1979, is a Chinese male screenwriter and director. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy, Renmin University of China. His landmark screenwriting credits include Crazy Alien, Breakup Buddies and Close-Range Killing.
Sun Xiaohang started his career writing stage plays. His self-written and self-directed drama Civilized City won the First Lao She Youth Drama Literature Award. In 2010, he co-wrote the film Rivers and Wind of the Nation. In 2014, the comedy Breakup Buddies, for which he served as screenwriter, grossed 1.17 billion RMB, claiming the top box office spot among all Chinese-language films that year. The same year, he co-wrote the war drama Close-Range Killing. In 2019, he collaborated with Ning Hao on the sci-fi comedy Crazy Alien, whose box office exceeded 2.2 billion RMB. On December 21, 2022, production kicked off for Safe Journey All the Way, a comedy film written and directed solely by Sun Xiaohang.
Sun Xiaohang has maintained long-term collaborations with filmmakers including Ning Hao, Huang Bo and Xu Zheng. His works are renowned for absurdist comedy. He also works as a mentor for the script workshop of the Green Onion Project, nurturing emerging screenwriters.
