Biography
Guillermo de Oliveira (December 6, 1986) is a Spanish film director, writer and producer, recognized for blending cinephile passion with visually ambitious storytelling. He first gained international attention through acclaimed live-action adaptations of video games, including Max Payne: Valhalla (2012) and Red Dead Redemption: Seth’s Gold (2015), which collectively amassed millions of views on Youtube. His feature documentary debut, Sad Hill Unearthed (Desenterrando Sad Hill, 2017), chronicled the restoration of the iconic cemetery from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The film premiered at Tokyo International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2019 Goya Awards. It was subsequently acquired by Netflix, where it reached a global audience and attracted praise from filmmakers and cinephiles worldwide, including director Sean Baker and game designer Hideo Kojima. A lifelong admirer of the western genre, de Oliveira served as director of the Almería Western Film Festival (2021-2023) and continued to build a distinctive body of work with the award-winning shorts Sauerdogs (2022), Tegoyo (2022) and Cara de cona (2026). De Oliveira is currently completing his first fiction feature film, A morte nos teus ollos, a Galician-language noir thriller inspired by real events and produced by Atresmedia Cine, Sideral, and Sétima. Starring Pepe Lorente and Iván Marcos, the film explores themes of corruption, family, violence, and redemption in 1990s Galicia and marks de Oliveira’s transition from acclaimed shorts and documentary filmmaking to feature narrative cinema.
