Biography
Nay Tabbara is a Lebanese filmmaker based between Beirut and New York. For the last 10 years, Nay has immersed herself in the filmmaking world in different departments, learning from notable names in the industry to become a multi-hyphenate filmmaker who writes, directs, edits and produces, amongst many other skills. She holds an MFA in Filmmaking degree from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she also teaches Editing within the Graduate Film department. Born and raised in Beirut, Nay’s stories center around her upbringing, and are inspired by her experience as a Lebanese woman growing up in a largely hybrid society. Having built a diverse body of work (short and long form, music videos, narrative and documentary…), Nay aspires to create projects that stem from deep inspiration and reflection on her environment. Although not political at first glance, her films always tend to nuance and reflect on socio-political topics and structures. Nay’s work has received international recognition from organizations and festivals such as the Raindance Film Festival, the Sundance Institute, the Doha Film Institute, The Future Of Film is Female, and many others.
