Born in Kalimpong, India, he moved to Mumbai to work in Bollywood as an editor before transitioning to Nepal, where he made his directorial debut with the 1981 hit Bansuri. Ghimire is best known for directing a string of legendary blockbusters including Kusume Rumal, Lahure, Chino, and Darpan Chhaya— which blended emotional family dramas with memorable music and high production values.
