Cécile Embleton is a self-shooting documentary director based in the UK. Her first feature-length documentary, Mother Vera, won the Grierson Award for Best Documentary at London Film Festival 2024 and first prize at Festival Dei Popoli in Italy in 2024. The production is supported by Sundance, won first prize at Locarno First Look 2023 and the First Look Prize at the HotDocs Forum 2021. The film premiered in competition at Vision du Réel in April 2024 and screened in competition at Camera Image, Camden International Film Festival and Gijon International Film Festival amongst others. Her debut short The Watchmaker premiered at Dok Leipzig 2016, SXSW and Hot Docs, won the Grand Jury prize at Boston International Film Festival and was nominated for UK Best Short at Open City Documentary Festival.
