Biography
André Moniz Vieira (1995) is a filmmaker, photographer, and video artist from Funchal, Madeira. His artistic work explores themes such as psychology, mysticism, and human esotericism, using a deeply introspective and singular approach. Since the beginning of his career in 2017, he has built a diverse portfolio that includes short films, documentaries, music videos, and digital content. In photography, André stands out for his minimalist and naturalist aesthetic, with a preference for soft lines, pastel colors found in nature, and neutral architectural textures. His artistic vision often frames the human being as a subtle and ephemeral presence within the vast context of the universe. In cinema, his most notable projects include the short films Melodies of a Mute Life (2017), Húmus (2019), and Dada (2019), which were screened at regional, national, and international festivals. As a documentary director, he has helmed O Sol Marca a Sombra for the Cecília Zino Foundation, Romeiros do Curral in co-production with the Municipality of Funchal, and Trégua, co-produced with Casa Invisível. The latter was awarded the “Rehabilitation Qualities” prize at the Olsztyn International Prison Film Festival “Prison Movie” in Poland, in 2023. André has also contributed as director of photography on projects such as Belmiro, Belmiro, Belmiro (2020) and A Febre do Cão Bravo (2022), both directed by Luciano Moniz, as well as Ladybug (2022) and The Inner Ramblings of Alan Grey (2025) by Teresa Correia. In October 2022, he founded Popsec Studio, a film production company focused on documenting artistic projects and events. With an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, André continues to enrich the artistic collaborations he engages in, leaving a distinctive mark on the cultural landscape.
