Biography
Actress Rae Kelly Hill, best known for playing 'June' in Life on Mars (2006), was born in a British military hospital in Germany where her parents were both stationed in the army. After a move to Carnoustie, Scotland, Rae started her career in performance early when her parents enrolled her into the local dance school at the age of 3. She continued her study of ballet and tap when her family moved to Barnsley, South Yorkshire and participated in numerous dance festivals and exams. After realising her love for acting she studied a range of qualification in the genre and gained a BA (hons) degree in Performance & Professional Practice at Sheffield Hallam University. Rae attended an intensive acting and musical theatre school in Manchester, England and was taught under David Johnson; one of the most successful British independent acting tutors to date. She was determined to forge a career within the acting industry and after her final showcase; Rae landed representation with Amber Personal Management Ltd, and her first job on the BAFTA winning comedy drama Cold Feet (1997). Her professional introduction to the industry saw her working with respected actors such as Robert Bathurst, Hermione Norris and Sean Pertwee. More TV, film and radio work followed; most notably the BBC 4 Radio play 'Writing the Century' where she played 'Lydia Reece' with a cast that included one of her inspirations; Toby Jones. Rae was then cast as 'Anne de Bourgh' along with Hugh Bonneville and Alex Kingston in the period drama Lost in Austen (2008). It was Rae's second period drama where she enjoyed playing high society and wearing luxurious costumes. Rae made the move to Melbourne, Australia in 2012 where her acting career continues.
