Biography
Born in state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 1954, Virginia Flores has worked in the film industry since 1975, initially as a Continuity Supervisor and Assistant Director. In the mid-1980s, she began working in Sound Editing for feature films – more than forty titles – and later graduated in Sound Design from the National Film Board of Canada, an innovative area in Brazilian cinema at the time. She was the Sound Designer for many films, also moving into Editing. When Embrafilme (BR) was dissolved in 1990, the production of Brazilian films slowed down, and like many of her colleagues, Virginia temporarily withdrew from filmmaking. Years later, with the Resurgence of Brazilian Cinema (Cinema de Retomada), the industry was revitalized through new incentive laws. Since Miramar (1997), he has forged a successful partnership with the director Júlio Bressane, which has been repeated in titles such as São Jerônimo (1998), Dias de Nietzsche em Turim (2001), Filme de Amor (2003), Cleópatra (2007), and A Erva do Rato (2008). Currently, she is a professor of audiovisual Editing and Preservation at the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), also continues to Editing films such as Duas Irenes (2017) and Tia Virginia (2023) by Fabio Meira.
