Biography
Ben Collins is a British supervising art director. Born in the United Kingdom, he earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Interior Architecture (Spatial Design) from the University of Salford, graduating in 1997. Collins began his career in the early 2000s as a concept model maker and draughtsperson on major studio features, contributing to productions such as Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003), and Troy (2004). He progressed through roles as junior draughtsperson and assistant art director on projects including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), The Boat That Rocked (2009), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), and The Monuments Men (2014). By the 2010s, Collins had advanced to the role of supervising art director and art director on a string of high-profile films. His credits include Zero Dark Thirty (2012), World War Z (2013), Into the Woods (2014), and Spectre (2015), for which he received Art Directors Guild Award nominations for Excellence in Production Design. In the late 2010s and early 2020s, Collins worked on several large-scale franchise productions. His work as supervising art director can be seen in The Snowman (2017), Johnny English Strikes Again (2018), Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019), The Old Guard (2020), Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), and The Marvels (2023). Collins achieved notable recognition for his work on the musical fantasy Wicked (2024), earning him the 2025 Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design for a Fantasy Film, shared with Nathan Crowley, Lee Sandales, and the extensive design team. Wicked also won the British Film Designers Guild Award for Best Production Design – Major Motion Picture – Fantasy and the America’s Rainbow Film Festival Award for Best Art Direction and Production Design.
