An experimental short film created for Year 12 VCE Media, exploring how different editing styles can accentuate vastly different atmospheres, even when using the same footage.
Set against the Yi cultural backdrop, the film follows a young girl, Li, struggling between traditional beliefs and personal awakening. Through surreal imagery and Yi rituals, the film explores the complex relationships between women, nature, maternal identity, and mythological narratives. It questions whether women are destined to be bound by “motherhood”, seeking alternative possibilities within ancient legends.
A director suffering from a lack of inspiration is working on a story. The protagonist in his mind does not want to end up starring in a terrible short film, and thus embarks on a journey to help the director find inspiration.
"wanna go to Alaska?" - "ok" That's how this whole adventure started. Where it got us, is a totally different story. Rain, Camping on the side of the road or under the pipeline, walking trough the tundra, cycling for days and days with no other people then each other, eating pasta with sardines for 2 months, going trough rollercoasters of emotions, and sharing those with a person you barely know, that was Alaska for us.
