Using a monoprint printmaking technique to recreate archival footage, Sideweighs and Backwords forefronts the imperfect action of memory. In opposition to the immaculate reproduction of traditional print and digital media, human memory is exposed as a verb – a constant recreation of a sequence of events, a story we tell ourselves. The story told here is a movement between homeland and a new home, a constant traversing of terrain and terms.

Driven by Dhaka's relentless traffic, a reckless motorcyclist dangerously rode onto a sidewalk, terrifying pedestrians and aggressively confronting a visually impaired man who was using the guided path. As an outraged crowd gathered to confront the illegal rider for his blatant disregard for safety and decency, the blind man remarkably stepped in to shield his aggressor. Ultimately, his unexpected act of grace transformed a moment of hostility into a powerful lesson in compassion.
