A novice crook gets involved in a ransom plot, but winds up kidnapping the wrong girl.

Ruth Butler, a clerk in an emporium, marries Jimmy Rutledge and thereby greatly displeases his mother, the owner of the emporium, because of Ruth's lowly origins.
