The Lonely White Sail

Taken from a Lermontov play, Sergei Gerasimov's Maskarad (1941) begins when beautiful Nina (Makarova) loses a bracelet during a masked ball. Another woman finds it and without revealing whose bracelet it belongs to, she gives it to an ardent Calvary officer admirer at the ball. This leads to deeper and deeper incisions upon the urbane social body of Tsarist Russia. A drama of pride, marital distrust, gambling, infidelity and humiliation twirls around the decaying corpse of a perverted social class.

Carmen is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on a novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée.

A widower is in trouble with money, and has seven daughters to marry. A creditor, a timid suitor, is unable to make up his mind.

The dreaded slave hunter Abu el Mot attacks the caravan and abducts the travelers, including Kara Ben Nemsi, his faithful companion Hadschi Halef Omar, the quirky scholar Ignaz Pfotenhauer and the English explorer Sir David Lindsay. Kara Ben Nemsi manages to escape with Hadschi Halef. To get help, they set off on a long journey full of impassable adventures...
