Migrating from Letterboxd to The Couch Critic

Moving your movie history is simple. Follow this step-by-step guide to export your data from Letterboxd and import it here.

Export from Letterboxd

Download your data

Letterboxd allows you to export all your data in a single zip file.

  1. Log in to your Letterboxd account.
  2. Go to Settings (hover over your username in the top nav).
  3. Click on the Data tab.
  4. Click the Export Your Data button.
A zip file (e.g., letterboxd-username-date.zip) will download.

Important: You must unzip/extract this file to access the CSV files inside.

Import to The Couch Critic

Upload your files

We support importing your watched history and reviews.

  1. Go to the Data Import section in your settings.
  2. Select Letterboxd as the platform.
  3. Upload one of the following files from your extracted zip:
    • watched.csv (Recommended for history)
    • reviews.csv (Includes text reviews)
    • diary.csv (Includes rewatches)
  4. Wait for the processing to complete.
Note: You can upload multiple files one by one to import different data sets.
What gets imported?
  • Ratings: Letterboxd's 5-star scale is converted to our 100-point scale (e.g., 3.5 stars = 70).
  • Reviews: Your written reviews are preserved and linked to the movie.
  • Watch Dates: The date you logged the movie is saved as the watched date.

Head over to your settings to begin the import process.
