Import from IMDb

Migrating from IMDb to The Couch Critic

Moving your movie history doesn't have to be a headache. Follow this step-by-step guide to export your data from IMDb and import it here.

Export from IMDb

Export your data

Ratings

Go to Your Ratings from the user menu.
Click the three vertical dots at top right, then select Export.
ratings.csv will be saved to your Downloads folder.

Checkins

Go to Your Lists from the user menu.
Click Your Checkins.
Scroll to the bottom and select Export this list.
checkins.csv will be saved to your Downloads folder.

Watchlist

Go to Your Lists from the user menu.
Click Your Watchlist.
Scroll to the bottom and select Export this list.
watchlist.csv will be saved to your Downloads folder.

Lists

Go to Your Lists from the user menu.
Click the title of the list to export.
Click the three vertical dots at top right, then select Export.
A CSV file with your list title will be saved.

Import to The Couch Critic

Upload your data

Once you have your CSV file, you can import it directly into your account.

Go to the Data Import section in your settings.
Select IMDb as the platform.
Select the Import Type (Ratings, Checkins, Watchlist, or Custom List).
Upload the corresponding CSV file.
Wait for the processing to complete.

Note: Large lists may take a few minutes to process as we match each title to our database.

What gets imported?

Ratings: Your 1-10 ratings are converted into 0-100 scores.
Watch History: Ratings and check-ins are added to your diary with their original dates.
Lists: Custom lists are created using the filename of your import (e.g., "Horror Movies.csv" becomes "Horror Movies").
Watchlist: Items are added directly to your watchlist.
Reviews: Written reviews are not included in IMDb exports and cannot be imported.
