A classic melodrama about the famous pianist Thomas Dahlhoff.

Hilda Granström runs a ladies' tailoring shop. Her husband Richard is a cellist in the Opera Orchestra. Their three daughters help out in Hilda's shop. Richard's 80-year-old mother, who once was a dancer, also lives with the family.

A self centered author are having a word feud in a news paper column with a journalist called Sussie. The author has just divorced and now need a new house keeper. Sussie sees her chance to go undercover and takes the job with the intent to dig up some dirt. However, love intervenes.

The old Victor Branzell has a grandson, Alf, who is in love with a clerk in a glove shop, Lilian Lind. But Lilian with her simple background doesn't get accepted in the circles where Alf belongs, and they have now reached the conclusion that they can't have a future together. Marriage is impossible. Maria is a waitress at a local restaurant when an older man propose to her. She is a bit skeptical but agrees to marry him and become the mistress of his estate Kvarngården. Maria had a son which she was forced to give away for adoption when he was born because she could not take care of him. She has keep contact with the child and posed as a kind aunt. She has not told her new husband about her son and when the years go by and no children of their own comes along the resentment and bitterness grows. When the adoptive mother of Maria's son dies she and the adoptive father agrees that the best thing for the boy is to come and stay with Maria at Kvarngården. She also hope that it will make her husband come out of his bitterness to have a young boy around. The result is unfortunately quite the opposite.

Karin Larsson and Douglas Hallencreutz has a somewhat peculiar relationship. They meet every Wednesday at Douglas. Karin is Douglas "Wednesday's friend." Otherwise, they live completely separate lives. This Wednesday they wake up together. Karin showers and leave Douglas fancy apartment at Strandvägen, Stockholm. She lives with her father, former captain Larsson. When Karin come home, Baltzar is at the door. Baltzar is a typical "guy" full of ideas, not always successful. It also turns out that Baltzar had a relationship with one of Karin's sisters.

A drama about the manager Håkan Dahlin who has just been discharged from a clinic where he was treated for his alcoholism. In an outbreak of jealousy, Dahlin abuses his wife Inga and after that he is forcibly interned again. Inga is a nurse and she is now moving to a mountain village to work at a district clinic. During an emergency visit, she encounters her childhood sweetheart, the doctor Gunnar, and old feelings between them begin to flare up again.

Ulla and Gunnar meet and fall in love in Stockholm in the late 1930s. Early in their relationship Ulla discovers that she is pregnant but she decides to get an abortion because she doesn't want to pressure Gunnar into marrying her. The outbreak of the war puts a strain on their relationship when Gunnar gets called up for military service.

Axel is courting women in large quantities. He increasingly conscious and excessively uses his innate and viable charm, evolving into a pure Don Juan.

The farmer Per Jonsson doesn't think too well about the factory in the neighborhood, since he thinks that it destroys the fishing and makes the young people leave the countryside. When the workers at the factory go on strike, they ask him to sell milk to them and let them work in his forest. But Jonsson is stubborn and refuses to give them any help at all. At least until he is in an accident and also need help.
