One hundred and thirty years since the club’s formation, Manchester United continue to dominate the game of football both at home and abroad. From humble beginnings, when the workers of the Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway first came together to play the emerging sport of football, Manchester United has acquired a special place in the hearts of supporters everywhere to become the most famous club in the world. Built on the raw talent and fighting spirit of the 'Busby Babes', who thrilled crowds all over Europe before tragedy struck in Munich, their spirit and style is still evident today, encouraged by Sir Alex Ferguson and epitomized by the modern-day superstars - Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Liverpool’s defence of their Premier League title didn’t quite go to plan, but Jürgen Klopp's mentality monsters found their way back into the Champions League, when it looked highly unlikely, with an incredible run of form at the end of a unique campaign. Without key players and the club’s incomparable supporters for most of the season, out of adversity came opportunity as Nathaniel Phillips became the rock on which Liverpool built their late charge. For the resurgent, resilient Reds, Mo Salah fired in another sensational 31 goals, proving some things never change. But it was an extraordinary late winner at West Bromwich Albion scored by goalkeeper Alisson Becker which proved the key moment as Liverpool closed in on the top four. An emotional goal in a hugely emotional season.

It was a season of spectacular scorelines and unforgettable victories. Every Liverpool FC fan will want to re-live the euphoria of the 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United, the biggest-ever victory against their fiercest rivals. The Reds also put six past Leeds and hit nine against AFC Bournemouth, equalling the Premier League all-time record. While the seven goals scored against Rangers in Glasgow included a six-minute hat-trick by Mohamed Salah, the quickest-ever in the Champions League. Marvellous, magical Mo once again passed the 30-goal mark, as a new dynamic strike force began to take shape, with Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo joining Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz to give Jürgen Klopp mouthwatering options for seasons to come. But, as a new era dawned, it was time to bid farewell to loyal servants. Most notably, Bobby Firmino, who signed off at Anfield in style after eight seasons of exemplary service, dazzling entertainment and over a century of goals.

The day after the most remarkable season in recent memory, hundreds of thousands lined the streets of Liverpool to celebrate a double cup-winning campaign which, but for the narrowest of margins, was so nearly a quadruple. A club-record 147 goals were scored in all competitions as the Reds thrilled and entertained in equal measure for 63 games of a season filled with breathtaking football and incredible drama. Silverware was secured by the way of sudden-death penalty shoot-outs in both the Carabao and FA Cups, with Caoimhin Kelleher and Kostas Tsimikas scoring the decisive spot-kicks to become the heroes. In the Premier League, Liverpool chased Manchester City right to the final whistle, with just one solitary point separating the two teams. Days later in the UEFA Champions League Final in Paris, only an unbelievable performance by Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois denied the Reds a seventh European crown.

For the first time in nearly three decades, Manchester United faced a new season with someone other than Sir Alex Ferguson in charge.
