14-year-old Eun-hee moves through life like a hummingbird searching for a taste of sweetness wherever she may find it. Ignored by her parents and abused by her brother, she finds her escape by roaming the neighborhood with her best friend, going on adventures, and exploring young love.

J is in their early teens and lives in the countryside. J has been diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder, goes by the selected pronoun “they”, and takes hormone blockers to suspend puberty. While J’s parents are away, their older sister and her Iranian boyfriend are assigned the duties of house-sitting and looking after J.

After moving from Iran to the US, Leila spends a day at the suburban house of her uncle Reza who she last met 13 years ago as a young girl. Reza, his daughter and his colleagues get together to welcome Leila.

A volcano spews lava that slowly crawls through the streets of Tehran. Thousands of miles away, an Iranian boy and his dad take a road trip through the American Midwest. Two seemingly unrelated journeys are juxtaposed in this rich meditation on diaspora, memory, and loss.
