On a trip to the Dutch Indies, a Dutch steamer calls at the harbour of Colombo. Shortly before the arrival of the ship at Batavia, a Chinese steward throws some packages out of a porthole. The packages are fished up by smugglers and taken to a lonely spot on the coast. From there the packages are transported by car to a dingy shanty. There the opium is packed in tins and eggshells and then sold to opium dens in Batavia. Two missionaries visit an opium den and hear from some of its inhabitants how and why they became addicted. A sick man explains that he uses opium to deaden his pain; another addict smokes the stuff to sharpen his wits. Particularly touching is the story of a young man who, some years earlier, was lured into the den by an attractive young girl who was an accomplice of the smugglers and who encouraged him to smoke opium in order to forget his sadness. The film ends with an appeal to the youth of the Dutch Indies to rid their country of de demon drug.

Dolores works as a washerwoman with her daughter Sole and they both live with the girl's stepfather and her godfather, a nice good-for-nothing guy. Although they all have a very different personality, they share the illusion of seeing Sole become a great artist.

When the dancer Carmen visits the bullfighter Antonio, who has stabbed a gypsy, in prison, she meets the dragoon brigadier José. The two immediately take a liking to each other, and from that day on, José often visits the café where Carmen dances. When Carmen injures another dancer in a jealous quarrel, José is ordered to arrest her...

Deckers visited the celebrating city of Harderwijk. We witness the historical parade, and see the locals who have dressed themselves up in historical clothing and costumes.

Short film about a flower seller who dreams about a fashion show. A young girl is selling flowers for a department store. The store’s windows show the latest fashions. As she begins to daydream, the mannequins come to life, and show off various garments. They invite the girl to come with them. Her dream is disturbed by a porter who shakes her awake. The film ends with a shot of the saleswoman in a stylish outfit.
