In the mid-sixties, love between husband and wife was taken to task by political vicissitudes in a seaside village at Fukien province right opposite the Quimoy islets.

Fuk Ching (Michael Hui) runs a farm in Mainland China. Persuaded by a Western businessman, the two put together a joint venture scheme to build a hotel.

A group of young people from all corners of the country work in a Beijing publishing press. They all live in the same shabby apartment block, where their lives intertwine.
