When Emir Feofar Khan, leader of the Tartar hordes, takes up arms and invades the steppes of Eastern Siberia, Czar Alexander II of Russia entrusts the brave officer Michael Strogoff with a dangerous mission.

Henri La Tour, a strolling player, is also a daring adventurer. After finding out about the affair between young farmer and his spoiled daughter, the landlord persecutes the former, takes away his family's rented vineyard and wine barrels, de facto dismantling this family. The young man returns on his father's funeral, and meets his old love again.

Upon returning home at war's end, a young lieutenant discovers that his family has been murdered by the Nazis. It's all the handiwork of a treasonous "Chetnik," who during the war worked against the partisans on behalf of the Germans. In bitter retaliation, the lieutenant sets about to decimate the Chetnik's family. He stops short, however, when he realizes that the sins of the fathers are not always passed down to the innocent children.

Continuing their exploits against the Yugoslav National Liberation Army, the Ballists attack an echelon of wounded warriors led by Dr. M. He takes the wounded to a nearby town. Aware that the justice is on the side of Doctor M., Ramadan, son of one of the Ballist leaders, joins him and contributes to defeat of the Ballists.

An engineer and his wife move to Zenica where the construction of the first plants is taking place, during highly progressive industrialization of the country. Her dreams are not in accordance with the reality, which makes their marriage impossible to function.

Goubbiah is a Yugoslav sponge fisherman. He loves Trinida, but she is promised to Peppo, the village drunkard. Jao tries to keep Goubbiah away from his daughter.
