Reformist melodrama about widow-remarriage. Jai Narain, owner of a colliery, forms a happy family with his wife, his daughter Saroj, son-in-law Kailash, an engineer at the colliery, and their son Nannha. Kailash dies in a colliery accident caused by Jai Narain. Nannha is sent to an orphanage and Saroj marries Ramesh, who loves her but is unaware of her previous marriage or of being a stepfather, while Saroj misses her dead husband and longs for her absent son. A former suitor, Ranjit appears, knowing her past history. Repeated scenes show Nannha pining for his mother.

This costume drama, adapted from Agha Hashar Kashmiri's classic Urdu play, unfolds a tale of rivalry, revenge, and love set against the backdrop of Roman persecution of Jews. The story centers on the Jewish merchant Prince Ezra, whose young son is tragically lost due to the cruel Roman Priest Brutus. In an act of vengeance, Ezra's slave kidnaps Brutus's infant daughter, Decia, bringing her to Ezra. Unable to harm her, Ezra raises Decia as his own, renaming her Hannah. Years later, Hannah falls in love with Marcus, a Roman prince (played by K. L. Saigal), leading to a complex web of mistaken identities, betrayal, and a dramatic confrontation that exposes the intertwined fates of both families and challenges notions of religion and lineage.

An idealistic writer from a humble background clashes with a wealthy capitalist who steals his work. When factory workers strike, the capitalist's sister, disillusioned by her privileged life, abandons her wealth to join the writer in his fight for social justice and equality for the poor.
