Years ago, three best friends were making a stir in Berlin’s arts scene and nightlife: Maria, a director; Laura, a young actress; and Jan, a DJ. Now they all meet up on a farm in the Black Forest where Laura and Jan had moved to fulfill their dream of a rural life. The illusions they’d all once had have given way to a life that is anything but glamorous.

Ambitious cello student Jessica receives an invitation to an international contest. A great opportunity, but at the same time it means enormous pressure. Stress begins to gnaw on Jessica's everyday life and soon reality and imagination blur.

A village amateur production of The Passion of the Christ degenerates into a blasphemous rave and brings together three characters who could hardly be more different: Director Roberto, who has been canceled from the Berlin off-theater scene, the young butcher Mia, who suddenly becomes the guardian of her sister with Down syndrome, and Father Oskar Iversen, who has turned his back on his Danish island parish for mysterious reasons. As his new parish in the Swabian village of Winteringen is about to be dissolved and Oskar cannot return to Denmark under any circumstances, he tries to convince the theater-loving archbishop to keep the parish alive by putting on a spectacular passion play.

Leon, from Frankfurt, returns to his native Albania after 20 years to scatter his deceased grandfather's ashes in the sea and is forced to confront his past and the family he never wanted to see again.

Bintou is from Burkina Faso and loves to lead a modern lifestyle. She dreams of becoming a famous dressmaker.
