Lina, a graceful schoolgirl, has an affair against her father's will with Álvaro, a young bohemian who squanders his fortune. They decide to flee from the father's vigilance, but at the train station a wounded beggar warns Lina about the grave mistake she is making. Álvaro bandages her wound with a handkerchief on which his initials are inscribed and Lina gratefully gives her her jewelry and in turn informs Álvaro of her decision not to continue with this adventure. The beggar woman is assaulted and murdered. Her corpse is found with Alvaro's handkerchief, who is accused of the crime. Although he is innocent, he keeps silent to protect Lina.

A story of pain and misery, a human theme and of palpitating actuality. It expresses all the anguish that the poet put into the song. This film was withdrawn from the billboard six days after its first screening.
