Pandora

The film tells the story of sixteen people in the hottest day of the year in the city of Porto Alegre.

David (Mark Stevens) is a physician who returns to Spain 30 years after his involvement in the Spanish Civil War. Now a member of a medical convention, he looks up old friends and finds his former lover, now a married woman with a flamenco-dancing daughter. He and the daughter (Manuela Vargas) have an immediate and mutual attraction to each other. He considers running away with the exotic beauty before asking his wife to join him for an extended vacation after the convention .

In the heart of Greenland’s vast frozen wilderness, 12-year-old Pipaluk lives with her mother and brother in an isolated village. Her dream: to compete in the most prestigious dog sled race, a challenge reserved for the greatest mushers, all men. Mocked by her peers and ignored by her family, Pipaluk develops a friendship with an adorable husky puppy named Ashia, and finds an unexpected ally in Tulok, a solitary and enigmatic old hunter. Under Tulok’s guidance, she slowly opens to the wonders of nature, discovers the true reason for his support, and soon realises that their destinies are intertwined. Will Pipaluk find the strength to defy tradition and achieve the impossible?

Will Bastion returns home from the army after an absence of 20 years to bury his father, the former chief of thee Maori tribe, Ngati Kaipuku. The eldest son, he is reluctant to inherit his fathers role, so it is taken more willingly by his younger brother, Kahu. Kahu is the leader of a band of drug dealers and trouble-makers who ride horses through the middle of town, wrecking peoples gardens. Under the guise of refusal of a land settlement, Kahu makes a large marijuana deal with some murdering city folk. Will must choose between loyalty for his brother and his father, Maori tradition, and contemporary financial issues.

For Naval officers duty comes first. Navy Lieutenant Favrel is one of these men. He has promised his wife Simone to stay with her all the time but a last mission aboard a training cruiser makes him realize that his life is tied to the sea. For his part, Navy cadet Pierre Hardouin understands that sailing is his vocation. The prospect of staying home alone while Pierre is on mission, frightens Madeleine, the girl of his heart. But the young woman ends up accepting the ordeal and marrying Pierre.
