A pulsing, kaleidoscope of images set to an energetic soundtrack. This is a world in motion, dominated by mechanical and repetitive images, with a few moments of solitude in a garden.

Doctor Planturel who is leaving for a vacation, hires a new servant too hastily. Now, Victor, the alleged domestic, is in fact a robber whose only aim is to burglar the doctor's house. But when a client comes to consult Planturel, he must keep up the appearances. That is why he asks his accomplice Fanchonnet to play the role of the doctor.

Because he found a box washed up by the sea holding unknown contents, a poor and despised fisherman and his daughter are suddenly courted by everyone in the village.

Boule de Gomme is a child actor. On the set of the film he is shooting he gets on the nerves of the director and of the all crew by being off the beat when he is asked to cry or to laugh. Nobody manages to reason with him, with the exception of a grip who uses the rough way. A good beating and everything comes right in the end. The grip is promoted to the rank of production manager.

A woman rocks a cradle; a man comes to land from the sea, but leaves to view it from a distance.

A friendly young man is accused by a Romanichel of being part of a fearsome band of thieves who are looting the lobster traps of a small Breton village.
