The true story of Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter who comes of age in Berlin on the eve of the Second World War. Fiercely imaginative and deeply gifted, she dreams of becoming an artist. Her first love applauds her talent, which emboldens her resolve. An aging movie actor who is preparing to shoot a death scene finds himself visited by the spirit of a dead, long-ago lover.

Adèle, a thirty years old woman decides to contact Vidal, a musician she admires. He answers and she’s surprised. Messages are exchanged, a date is arranged. Adèle goes to the met, radiant with joy, but also worried : there’s a detail she forgot to mention, she’s pregnant.

Before he marries his current girlfriend, eccentric speech therapist Richard (Serge Bozon) asks his friend Raphael (Mods star Laurent Lacotte) to help him destroy photos kept by his ex-girlfriend, Mademoiselle Dornet, as a record of their relationship. Raphael in turn enlists an actor (Laurent Le Doyen) to pose as a Turkish doctor and convince Dornet that she must rid herself of the photos in order to cure her depression.

Sardine, ten, lives with her family in a village in Picardy. On the day of her sister's wedding, she fights with her family to allow her big brother, Ben-Hur, twenty-five, mentally and physically handicapped, to take his natural place for the ceremony : that of the head of the family who gives the bride away.

Oriol and Yolanda live in Paris with their two daughters. During a holiday they have a car accident. Celia, their older daughter, dies and Oriol goes into a coma.

Renato Berta, director of photography who won a César in 1988, this time appears in front of the camera under the direction of Paul Lacoste, who retraces the creative process of the Swiss filmmaker. Between archive images and anecdotes about his shoots with the greatest independent directors of his time (Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol and even Louis Malle...), Renato Berta confides how, from a script, he imagines the scenes of a film.
