Posthumous tribute paid by actor Luc Bernard to his older brother, director Guy Gilles ( 1938 - 1996 ). Documentary composed of interviews with some of his brother's friends and some actors from his main films, excerpts of which we see.

Created in 1861, this comedy by Eugène Labiche depicts two bourgeois families obsessed with appearances who intend to marry off their children. Labiche exposes the social rivalry between the two families through tyrannical female characters and submissive husbands, whose only concern is to create illusions in society.

In May 1664, Louis XIV celebrated the completion of major expansion work at Versailles. For the occasion, the king called on Molière's talent to compose these evenings for the court and the comedians. These very familiar festivities spotlighted two historical figures: Louis XIV and Molière. These entertainments are composed of three plays by Molière: La Princesse d'Elide, Le Mariage forcé and three acts of Tartuffe. Maurice Béjart staged these gargantuan evenings at the Comédie-Française, where excess was omnipresent in these pleasures.

Two married couples share the same holiday house. Everything seems to go smoothly except that Pierre, one of the two husbands, is irresistibly attracted to Marthe, his friend's wife. First performed in 1732, Marivaux's play on the theme of cross-dressing, depicts the stratagems of the young princess Léonide in love with Agis, the legitimate heir to the throne of Sparta. To meet the prince, watched over by the philosopher Hermocrates and his sister, Léonide disguises herself as a man and seduces the whole household.

1661, the Assemblée du Clergé de France obliged all clergy to sign a form testifying to their submission to the decisions of the Holy See. In 1664, the Archbishop of Paris wanted to impose this decision on the nuns of Port-Royal. Among them was Sister Angélique de Saint Jean, admired by the very young Sister Françoise, who looked to her for comfort.

On the terrace of a Parisian café, Paul Valéry observes his neighbor, Monsieur Teste. The two men strike up a conversation. A supporter of "neither god nor master", Mr. Teste engages in a regular introspection, as rigorous as it is passionate, and shares his thoughts with humor.

Olga, Masha, and Irina Prozoroff lead lonely and purposeless lives following the death of their father who has commanded the local army post. Olga attempts to find satisfaction in teaching but secretly longs for a home and family. Masha, unhappy with her marriage to a timid schoolmaster, falls hopelessly in love with a married colonel. Irina works in the local telegraph office but longs for gaiety. Their sense of futility is increased by their brother's marriage to Natasha, a coarse peasant girl. She gradually encroaches on the family home until even the private refuge of the sisters is destroyed. They dream of starting a new life in Moscow but are saddled with the practicalities of their quiet existence. Despite their past failures, they resolve to seek some purpose and hope when the army post is withdrawn from the town.
