A story of a relationship between an overprotective mother and her son. It is a playful game of constant changes of social and family roles, age and sizes. The film tries to answer the question who is truly an adult and what does it mean.

A few naked women and children are bathing in a river. They are being secretly observed by a group of men who, at one point, decide to approach them in a violent manner, as if inspired by the behaviour of hippopotamuses.

When his father, a famous pilot, crashes in China under unexplained circumstances and is accused of treason, Junior sets out on a journey to unravel the mystery of his mysterious disappearance. Written in the style of a crime novel, fairy tale, and magical realism, Junior's journey to Shanghai and the rocky Malacca Mountain triggers a series of questions about his famous father's secret life.

The film is about the remarkable life of a poor priest's son – Georg Julius Justus Sauerwein and his life-long love for Princess Elisabeth of Wied, later Queen of Romania. This is a psychological drama about a brilliant but complex man. His humanitarian values were far ahead of his time. In his day, he was the most vilified person in the German press. Based on Sauerwein's letters and other written sources and narrated from the first person, the film merges the classic fairytale with documentary realism, both in script and visual design, pushing the boundaries of documentary.
