In the dense and murky woodlands of provincial Hungary, the search for a child murderer drags a once-respected detective into an all-consuming obsession enshrouded by irresolution and despair, even long after he has been taken off the case. What emerges is not a crime story, but a harrowing venture through the darkness of the human soul.

In the late 17th century, Hungary moved from Turkish to Austrian domination, becoming a key part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In this story, which takes place shortly after that time, three outlaws murder a group of people on their way to a wedding. One young man was a slave travelling with the group to entertain them with his skills as a trumpeter. The outlaws spare him for the same reason. He allows himself to believe that they are really an unattached group of independence-fighters, but after seeing their brutal and callous ways, he cannot believe that they are good men, and he turns them in to the authorities. At that point, he is unnerved to discover how nobly they bear the rigors of captivity. ~

Benő Karácsony's best-known and most famous novel, The Sunny Side, was written in 1936. Its protagonist is Kázmér Felméri, at first a forced clerk, then a bumbling miller and talented sculptor, who, with his own unique outlook on life, lives his life in the greatest possible inner freedom among the typical characters of his small town in the typical milieu of the time.

The film, set in 1956, stars Gyula Káli, a young man from the countryside who moves to Budapest and sees only one opportunity for success: to become a ping-pong champion. His work and his private life are determined by a strict training schedule, which he refuses to interrupt even for the days of October. It is only as a champion in 1957 that he wonders: will his achievements make up for the sacrifices he has made to achieve his goal?

Adapted for Hungarian TV. Dreamy Peer Gynt lives in a small Norwegian village high up in the mountains with his mother, Aase, and his grandfather. Peer Gynt's elderly father and grandfather have squandered everything, but the boy could still make the farm prosper with hard work if he wants to work, not just tell stories and hang around. Peer is living in a dream world, wanting to be king or emperor, running after his impossible visions without thinking. He could make a decent marriage with Ingrid, the daughter of a wealthy farmer, but he just dishonours her and runs away. Solvejg loves her with true love and then goes into the woods to hide, but Peer continues to run away to distant foreign lands...

Gruber is a normal 16-year-old growing up in Budapest in 1962, but he has a problem -- how does he get to know the opposite sex? At the Sunday afternoon dance classes the young "ladies and gentlemen" hold each other while dancing, and that makes the lessons worth something. Otherwise, the pianist's attention wanders and the orchestra does not exactly play with a single-minded dedication. In fact, everybody seems to have other things on their minds, except for the enthusiastic dance instructor and his ever-smiling assistant.

The tumultuous history of Hungary through the twentieth century is viewed through the saga of the Hungarian-Jewish, furniture-manufacturing family, the Vendels. After taking over the once successful, but now failing, family business in the 1930s, the family patriarch's dashing elder son decides that the family needs an infusion of new blood. A matchmaker presents him with a photo of a pretty German nursery school teacher. When the two meet, they instantly fall in love, but because Hungary has an alliance with Germany, and the Third Reich prohibits marriage between Gentiles and Jews, the couple must hide their union. Their marriage ultimately stands as a dark foreshadowing of rougher times to come as troubles ensue with the advent of World War II, when the family, its employees and servants must retreat to the basement, where the shop emerges increasingly as a refuge in a world growing more violent and less tolerant.

Lajos Tót, municipal firefighter at the Mátraszentanna. His house is clean, his garden bathed in sunshine. If his son weren't serving on the Russian front, Lajos Tót would only know there was a war on from the radio. When his son's commanding officer turns up one fine day to rest from the shocks of war at the Tót's, Lajos Tót and his family do everything to make the Major feel at home. Everything that is humanly possible. But what is humanly possible, in times of hardship at least, is a matter of opinion. "If a snake (a rarity) devours itself, is there a snake-sized void left behind? And is there any power that can feed a man his being? Is there? No? Is there? A toothy question!"

This documentary celebrates the 100th anniversary of the cinema birth. It is an historic running through the technical and artistic evolution of the 7th art. We move from mute to sound, from B&W to color, trough all the genders (musical, Lyric, politic...). Beside it we have a kind of resume of the historic contest in which cinema lived till now, events and movements (neo-realism, classical etc.). All the aspects are taken in consideration: fashion, star system till the end, the sad end, of cinema in the theaters.
