A small industrialist from Turin, who inherited the business from his father, finds himself facing a serious economic crisis with unease. This crisis is echoed by personal crises: misunderstandings with his wife and intemperance towards those around him.

Milan, Italy, 1967. Santo Russo, a boy of Calabrian origin, arrives north with his parents and younger brother to find better living conditions. Due to an absurd misunderstanding and his father's contempt, Santo ends up in prison, where he gets a “true education.” In 1978, he and his friends Slim and Mario embark on a 15-year criminal career, a successful and ruthless spiral of robberies, kidnappings, murders and heroin smuggling.

After a fateful encounter in the summer of 1966, the lifepaths of two brothers from a middle-class Roman family diverge, intersecting with some of the most significant events of postwar Italian history in the following decades.

1860. February 2009. A group of Vinyls workers on temporary layoff occupy the Asinara prison to demand the reopening of the plants and continue working. It seems like a desperate battle, an extreme protest, but little by little, the world takes notice of these men stranded on a deserted island, prisoners in an abandoned prison, and their traditional union battle becomes visible thanks to non-traditional means of struggle. After a year, the plants remain shut down and it seems that nothing has changed. In reality, everything has changed.
