1944. Lucien, a fighter in the Free French Forces, is taken prisoner by the Germans. He is sent to a prison camp and then becomes a pianist in a palace.

THE PINK HOUSE tells the story of Kalgoorlie's last original goldrush brothel through the eyes of the colourful Madam Carmel, 70, and her longest-serving lady of the night, BJ. Filmed over several years and with unprecedented access to the inner workings of this unique brothel, THE PINK HOUSE is an intimate portrait of two women bound together by the past and their precarious future. And when darker forces begin to exert pressure, their fragile relationship is tested to its limits.

This film documents a unique collaboration between Indigenous and white historians from Australia and North America. In September 2004, a diverse group travelled through the Top End of Australia meeting representatives of the traditional landowners, and engaging in a dialogue about Indigenous history. The themes that emerged raised more questions than answers - from cultural appropriation and copyright, to land rights, the role of language and art, and what history means to Indigenous communities in the current climate of cultural reclamation and survival.
