The film depicts the depression experienced by Faruk after being abandoned by his girlfriend. When Faruk is abandoned by his girlfriend Şermin, he falls into a deep sense of loneliness. He is unable to focus on his business for a long time. He decides to leave everything behind and go to London. Faruk's business partner Samim will devise a plan to dissuade him from this decision.

The film tells the story of Melike and Cafer, whose lives intersect by chance. Melike has lost her father, and Cafer has lost his mother. The two meet at the cemetery. Melike works at her father's newspaper. Cafer is a locksmith at a safe manufacturing plant. Melike's uncle Bekir plans to transfer all of her father's inheritance into his own name. Murat, who works at the newspaper, notices this situation. However, to obtain the sales documents, he must open Bekir's safe. Melike thinks that Cafer might be able to open the safe. Cafer, who has gotten into all sorts of trouble because of his honesty and straightforwardness, will get himself into trouble with this job as well.

The weakness of the film is that the director is not able to take enough distance from the events to give the story a more universal appeal. Av Zamani was screened at the Montreal World Film Festival 1988.
