A documentary hosted by Walter Matthau, which discussed and showed examples from cinematic comedy classics. Long portions of the documentary were devoted to the comedy teams of Abbot & Costello and Laurel & Hardy, and to the films of director Ernst Lubitsch.

During World War II, the usually sleepy town of Gander, Newfoundland is abuzz with activity as the stopover point for many flights between North America and the European Theater. Teenager Terry Fleming, who lives just outside of Gander, is feeling conflicted. He wants to work in Gander so that he can have access to the plethora of movie stars and GIs flying though the area.

In this pilot film, an Irish Catholic police chief and a Jewish rabbi join together to solve the murder of a housekeeper whose body was discovered by the front entrance of the rabbi's synagogue.

A couple of resourceful, free-wheeling criminal attorneys with an eye for the ladies confront a no-nonsense judge while trying to clear an heiress in the slaying of her husband, although her explanation of a mysterious intruder provides them with a rather weak case.
