His ostensible success (based on blackmailing rather than convincing), as well as his love defeat, make him disturbed and he kills an innocent man while performing a social mission.

In Autumn of 1943 American plane carrying Soviet colonel is shot down near Nazi-occupied Belgrade. Germans capture the colonel and begin interrogations, because he knows everything about forecoming Allied summit in Tehran. Group of Yugoslav Partizans is sent to Belgrade in order to rescue the colonel before he starts talking.

This film predominantly deals with the problems of a young man whom his delusions led into conflict with society. These issues will throw him into an adventure that would be tragic for him, but still helpful for him to see the truth. The story takes place in Kosovo in 1945, in an atmosphere of uncured wounds, wandering, betrayal, burned homes, typhoid and other postwar misery. An authentic story from those days was taken as the film's basis.
The parents of a two boys remarried after divorce. The older one stayed with his father and his attractive young wife, while the younger one stayed with the mother and her new husband. On Sundays, the two boys visit the other family alternately, and the younger Djuro will soon realize that they have much more in common.

The story is inspired by the comedy of the most famous Yugoslav playwriter Branislav Nušić. Žarko, a young poet is being chased by police for publishing an anti-regime poem. He hides in his friend Dušan's house, who introduced him to his parents and sister Zorica under the name of his old school mate, Vlajko Mićić. Love will develop between the false “Veljko” and Zorica, who admires Žarko’s poems. However, the poet does not reveal his true identity. Zorica’s parents notice the love between the two young people, and on the advise of their family friend secretly invite Vlajko’s father to come to their home.

After breaking the enemy's rings, a partisan batch is left only with three wounded and two healthy fighters. Through his binoculars, the German captain Anders monitors the surviving soldiers who are walking through the fog in an effort to reach their brigade. "Maiden Bridge" is a place of exchange of German prisoners and partisans captured by the Germans. Unit with nine captured Germans is marching towards the bridge. there is double trouble for partisans, since they are surrounded by the hostiles and also going directly into the hands of ruthless enemy leaders.
Idealistic young man supports the party and the new Yugoslavia's communist regime, but soon gets involved in various political and criminal machinations becoming more and more confused about what's right and what's wrong.
