Little Max and his friend Tüte want to make the pharmacist into an April fool by asking him for a bottle of mosquito fat. But the pharmacist is clever and sees through the boys’ plan. He labels a bottle “Muscle Power for Cosmonauts, three tablespoons per hour.” Tüte wakes up little Max during the night because he is so excited to share his discovery: One sip from the bottle will turn anybody into a cosmonaut. Little Max drinks some of the tonic and immediately finds himself in full cosmonaut gear. Suddenly, both boys are in outer space, but the tonic has worn off and they are in their pyjamas. They urgently need another sip from the bottle. Or maybe it was all only a dream?

Unnoticed, he draws a moat across the track. The start takes place. Initially, Kurz and Lang are tied, but Lang jumps over at the ditch and Kurz remains sadly on the sidelines. The beaming winner is Lang. Kurz calls on the unfair Lang to run a second race.

The smoke that seeps into the kitchen obscures the mother bear's view and a pot breaks. The little bear empties his money box to get a replacement. On the way, he meets his friends playing ball and joins in enthusiastically. The ball bursts in the bear's paws. The little boy spends his money on a new ball. When his friends come back, he tells them what the money was actually meant for. They understand his grief and together they make a new pot, which the baker bakes for them. With flowers, the painted picture and the pot, they wish the mother bear a happy birthday.
