Minnie, the village tomboy, meets a handsome Stranger after playing ball one afternoon. She invites him to see a bridge model her father has designed; but finding her intoxicated father in the act of destroying the model, she swears vengeance on the local bootleggers and joins a newspaper as sportswriter so as to expose their activities. Pike, the station agent, leader of the bootleggers, spreads a scandal about Minnie when she rejects him, but through the help of the Stranger everything is cleared up.

Larry Grayson, jazz age son of permissive parents, drifts from wild parties with his classmates to more heady, roadhouse entertainment. There he becomes involved with an underworld gang and falls in love with Spanish Marla, one of their vamps. Larry leaves home after an argument with his father, throws in with the gang (who are using him for their own purposes), and is blamed for a murder. Tried and convicted, Larry is given a light sentence when the judge places most of the blame on his overindulgent parents.

After several amusing gags, including one in which a tough character seems to be holding up the pawnshop but is only selling his gun, Abie sees Kitty Dolan, whose father is running for alderman, and it is love at first sight. A rival candidate makes trouble and plants a bomb in the shop but Abie turns the tables on him. Election day finds Dolan's followers too lazy to vote. Abie stirs them up by offering to lick them and then running to the polling place with the mob at his heels. Dolan wins and so does Abie.

Trafford turns her out of their African home, but she returns to nurse him back to health when he is injured by a lion.

She falls in love with him, and when his ship leaves port she decides to show up at its next stop and reunite with her lover. This is the story of a gilded son by name of Simon Legree who has inherited the violent temper of his ancestor of Uncle Tom's Cabin fame. His main interest in life has to do with winning a beautiful girl and providing plenty of slumber for himself. Each morning, he is awakened by a harp solo - and all is well except for the fact that his prospective father-in-law does not rate him very high. However, his opportunity comes at last to prove his worth when he frustrates the plans of a crooked contractor who is constructing an unsound dam for father-in-law.

When he is assigned to take the salmon in the lines he gets absent minded and throws hand grenades over to the hungry buddies. With the aid of a battalion of chorus-girls dressed like Anzacs and who appear for no reason at all, the recruit captures a company of Germans and is decorated by the Colonel.

Carlos Brent's grandfather informs him that he is rightful owner of a ranch in the possession of the Hendley family. A belated letter establishes his claim, but Carlos is reluctant to evict the usurpers because he loves Carmen, Hendley's daughter. He solves his problem by abducting and marrying Carmen, thus becoming the ranch's legal owner.
