They served a year on the island of Vis, at the time called “The Fortress of Adriatic” because of its strategic position and numerous military installations all over the island. Vis was one of the two Yugoslav islands that foreigners were forbidden to visit. In a very small military barracks on the edge of the island, far away from any civilization, bizarre things started to happen. Thirty years later, ten former soldiers from the same military barracks remember the events. They are of different nationalities – from Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, to Montenegro – which will be at war with each other just a few years later. Their stories subtly reveal why it is no wonder that Yugoslavia as a country fell apart.

With the advent of television, many people reckoned that the days of radio were numbered. What is a voice without a face, a laugh without perceptible gesticulations, music without visible animation and so, what little magic was left to retain listeners? It is this very space that Vlado Skafar has chosen to portray in his film made with the aid of basic materials. The pictures: shots of landscapes, cities, all very ordinary, of Slovenia. The sound: the kind of night broadcast where listeners are invited to intervene by way of a game: they phone in, ask for advice, complain, chat or try to flirt with the female presenter who remains invisible to the bitter end.

However, the story of Breza and Silvija only marks the beginning of the plot whose main character is actually Düplin, an eccentric outsider, a deaf-and-dumb tramp or, as Breza's mother, the old Popovka, a farm owner and a fortune-teller also referred to as Strina, called him "a lad from a citrus producing country".

"Letter to a Child" combines intimate conversations with perfect strangers and personal letters contemplating bits and pieces of life, collected and addressed to a child. In a series of “guided monologues” people – from kindergarten children to the vintage ages – are contemplating and reliving their lives. When they forget about the camera and they turn their eyes inside, the film starts. They are alone with themselves in front of us and then we are alone with ourselves, with our life, long passed, very present. Through the film the intimate diaries are silently drawing in the back a picture of human life of the last hundred years.

The sequel to Let Him Be a Basketball Player continues the humorous story of Ranta, a boy so tall that he could be knotting ties to giraffes. A story about a clumsy boy who is so lazy that in the evening he would fall sleep standing up if the bed didn’t come to him on its own accord.
